The Great Democratic Youth Movement (GDYM) has called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to urgently reassign former Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Fred Itua, to another strategic role within the state government following his removal from office in December 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Justice Tobore Jerome, GDYM described Itua’s removal as “unfortunate but not irredeemable,” noting that while political appointments are subject to change, competence and experience should not be discarded.
According to the group, Itua played a key role in shaping the administration’s communication strategy during a critical trial period and helped project government policies to the public with clarity and professionalism.
“Fred Itua has proven himself as a capable media professional and public servant. His removal as CPS should not translate into political exile,” the statement read. “We urge Governor Okpebholo to promptly reassign him to a position where his experience and loyalty can continue to benefit the Edo State government.”
GDYM emphasized that the call was not a protest against the governor’s decision but an appeal for inclusive governance and effective utilization of human resources, as Itua reassignment to another position is long overdue.
The pro-democracy group further warned that sidelining experienced aides could weaken institutional memory and disrupt ongoing communication reforms within the government.
GDYM concluded by reaffirming its support for the governor’s leadership while urging him to prioritize unity, competence, and continuity in governance.
“Strong governments are built not only on authority but on wisdom, the wisdom to retain and reposition capable hands for the greater good of the people,” the group added.
