As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, the Global Democratic Youth Movement (GDYM) has called on Nigerians to remain patriotic, tolerant, and hopeful despite the nation’s challenges.
In a statement released on Wednesday, and jointly signed by the group National Coordinator, Comrade Justice Tobore Jerome and the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Godspower Uchejim, the youth-focused organization, stressed that the country’s future rests on the collective resolve of its citizens to remain united and committed to national progress.
The statement noted that while Nigeria has faced economic difficulties, insecurity, and political divisions over the years, her resilience as a nation is proof that better days are still possible.
“At 65, our dear country stands at a critical crossroads. We must renew our commitment to patriotism, embrace tolerance across ethnic and religious lines, and remain hopeful about the promise of Nigeria,”the message read.
GDYM urged leaders at all levels to prioritize good governance, equity, and accountability, while encouraging citizens to continue playing active roles in building the Nigeria of their dreams.
The pro-democracy youth group further emphasized the importance of youth involvement in nation-building, describing young people as “the heartbeat of Nigeria’s destiny and the drivers of her transformation.”
It concluded with a reminder that independence anniversaries should not only be a time for celebration but also sober reflection on how far the nation has come and what must be done to secure its future.
