Edo State is on the brink of a major transformation as construction kicks off on the ambitious Benin-Asaba Dual Carriageway, a flagship project under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Governor Monday Okpebholo toured key infrastructure projects in Benin City, spotlighting this game-changing expressway alongside other developments like the Amufi Road reconstruction and the Ramat Park flyover.
The Benin-Asaba Expressway is set to become a 10-lane marvel, with 20 kilometers expected to be completed by December 2025. Mr. K. V. Rao, Project Director for Africa Plus Partners and the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, shared the timeline: “Real work is going to commence on August 5th, 2025.” He added, “What is currently going on right now is a palliative work to divert the entire traffic on the right-hand side of the road.” The project will feature two main carriageways with two lanes on each side and dedicated service roads, promising smoother travel and boosted economic activity.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “Well, this is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. He is taking this road straight to Asaba. It is going to be 10 lanes. Five on one side, five on the other side.” He also highlighted its roots in high-level collaboration: “Remember when this road was flagged off a few months ago, the Minister for Works was here. The Minister for Finance was also here. And I was here. This is the fruit of that flag-off. And this is the demonstration of Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for our people.”
Beyond the expressway, the Governor inspected the reconstruction of Amufi Road, connecting four communities—Amufi, Okpagha, Iyanomo, and Egiekpe—and the ongoing flyover at Ramat Park. These projects aim to ease traffic congestion and improve daily life for Benin City residents, aligning with the broader vision of urban development and enhanced connectivity.
With construction set to ramp up, Edo State is poised to reap the benefits of these transformative projects, proving that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering real results.
