Calls on government to prioritise welfare and security of the people

As Christians in Nigeria and across the globe celebrate this year’s Easter, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, Engr. Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen, has urged Nigerians to be united, peaceful and love one another.
He emphasized the importance of love, unity, and peace among the people, while calling on the federal and state governments to place the welfare and security of the people at the forefront of their agenda.
Focusing on the core Christian principles of love and compassion, Izedonmwen urged the people to come together despite their differences.
“Easter is a time of renewal, a time to reaffirm our commitment to love one another as Christ has loved us. In these times of uncertainty, we must remember the power of love to heal wounds, mend divisions, and create a more united and peaceful society.
“Love should not only be a sentiment but a guiding principle in our daily life. Whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities,” he stated.
He called on individuals to embody the spirit of Easter by showing kindness, empathy, and understanding towards others, especially those in need.
The 2024 governorship candidate also took the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration to call on the government at the centre and the sub-nationals to take more decisive action in ensuring the welfare and security of the people.
“In these challenging times, it is the responsibility of the government both at the federal and state level to prioritize the well-being of its citizens. The security of our people is paramount, and we must see more efforts in safeguarding lives and properties from the threats that continue to plague our communities,” he said.
The engineer-turned-politician particularly called on Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to do more in protecting Edolites from the ravaging insecurity that has engulfed the state, which has led to loss of lives and property in several communities and has been alleged to be carried out by so-called herdsmen and non-state actors.
He urged leaders to invest in programmes that directly benefit citizens, such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and social welfare, while also emphasizing the need for strong security measures to protect citizens from violence and unrest.
“A government that truly cares for its people will ensure that the most vulnerable are protected and that every citizen has access to basic necessities,” he said.
Izedonmwen also highlighted the importance of social cohesion in the face of challenges, calling on Nigerians from all walks of life to engage in acts of service before, during and after Easter.
“It is not enough to merely pray; we must also act. Whether through volunteering, supporting the less privileged, or standing up for justice, we all have a role to play in building a stronger and a just society,” he stated.
