Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is set to foot the bill for a team dinner after his frustrated reaction to being subbed against Ipswich, head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed.
The Argentine was taken off for Noussair Mazraoui on Wednesday after Patrick Dorgu’s red card, but instead of joining his teammates on the bench, Garnacho headed straight down the tunnel.
Amorim later addressed the situation, explaining that Garnacho had simply gone to the dressing room to change out of his wet kit before watching the rest of the game from a different spot.
Though the coach found no major issue, he reminded Garnacho about the importance of perception at a club like Manchester United. His solution? The young winger will now cover the cost of a team dinner to smooth things over.
“I think he understands,” Amorim said. “It’s tough to handle these moments, but players have to learn. I’m just here to help them become better footballers.”
Meanwhile, Garnacho is expected to be fit for United’s FA Cup clash against Fulham on Sunday.
Amorim also weighed in on Roy Keane’s criticism of Bruno Fernandes’ leadership, backing his captain and saying, “I have the opposite opinion—and mine matters more because I’m the coach.”
