Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has unveiled a plan to reduce petrol prices for select farmers in the state, aiming to support those affected by the insurgency. Speaking in Bama town, Zulum announced that the state government will subsidize petrol costs for farmers in affected communities.

Petrol, currently sold between N1,000 and N1,200 in Maiduguri, will be subsidized to N600 per liter for farmers.

This initiative targets farmers displaced by Boko Haram insurgents, struggling to recover and facing challenges like high fuel costs for irrigation farming.¹ A similar initiative in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, has shown significant success in boosting food production and improving livelihoods.

To ensure the success of this program, the Commissioner for Agriculture will work with the Brigade Commander to deliver subsidized petrol to farmers in Bama town. Additionally, Zulum distributed farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers, including fertilizers, water pumps, gasoline pumps, solar water pumps, sprayers, and pesticides.
