The results announced by the Independent National Election Council for the General Elections in Nigeria that held in February 25 that announced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the presidential Election was rejected by Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and People Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. They challenged the results and brought their petitions to an election Tribunal. The judgement was later delivered on the 6th of September 2023.
The summary of today’s ruling (6th September 2023) and the basis of PEPT judgement are as follows:
1. Shettima’s double nomination was not intentional.
2. FCT is part of the 36 states.
3. Forfeiture of proceeds from drug offences is not criminal. He was convicted but was not banned from entering US.
4. LP party failed to list all the polling units in the over 4,000 blurred election results.
5. INEC didn’t promise to transmit results electronically and realtime.
6. Dismissed perjury because Guinean passport was not properly submitted.
