Nasser al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris St.-Germain, was introducing the team’s new coach when he turned to tough talk on the future of his team’s biggest star.
It was at the unveiling of yet another new coach that Paris St.-Germain’s president made his first public statement on the future of his team’s best player. He did not equivocate and left little room for compromise.
Kylian Mbappé, the marquee player for P.S.G. and France, must sign a new contract this summer or leave, Nasser al-Khelaifi told reporters, who were ostensibly gathered to hear the first pronouncements from the new coach, the Spaniard Luis Enrique, but eager to hear what the club planned to do about the uncertainty created by Mbappé after his public declaration last month that he wished to move on after next season.Such a scenario would leave the club in the unenviable situation of losing, without compensation, a player in whom it has invested more than $500 million in transfer fees, bonuses and wages. That is something al-Khelaifi said would not be allowed to happen.
“We do not want him to leave for free in 2024,” al-Khelaifi said.
“Our position is clear,” he continued. “If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract.
“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free. It’s impossible.”
The craziest and most expensive football contract ever, social media has been buzzing over Mbappe’s renewing for PSG, the shock hit the football world. The more shocking news is definitely the released content of his new contract, it is the biggest contract figures in the history of football, that figure is higher than any transfer fee ever paid by a club other than PSG.
Mbappe is set to receive a €150million fee for signing his new deal with PSG. That figure does not include his salary.
Details of Mbappe’s new deal are frankly remarkable, with the 23-year-old on course to pocket than €100m a year from the club alone as salary, he’d earn a whopping €1.6 million a week.
He signed for 3 years. That means from his normal salary, he’d earn €300m.
If he’s making this much from the club alone. Imagine what a player of his calibre will pull from endorsements and other personal deals.
There are also some unprecedented factors Mbappe will now enjoy, such as a huge say in off-field decisions and appointments within PSG’s hierarchy.
Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe, has become the highest-paid footballer in the world.
Mbappe is just 23 years old.
