Police in Harare are investigating a case of rape, involving a 22-year-old woman from Norton, who was promised a job by an unidentified man.
The victim received a call from her cousin, Tadiwanashe Kanamo, of Marlborough. She informed her that she was with a lady who was looking for someone to work in her shop.
The woman contacted the so-called shop owner, who asked her to go to Whitehouse. The man made her wait until it was dark and deserted before taking her down a path where he raped her. The woman has been referred to hospital for a medical examination while the police try to identify the perpetrator. The woman told H-Metro that her rapist made wait for hours at a service station. She even shared with him the food she had brought. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said they were investigating the case. “The complainant boarded a kombi from Norton around 2pm and disembarked at Puma Service Station in Snake Park, and was told to wait at the service station. “After about 30 minutes the complainant was approached by the accused, who told her that he had been sent to collect her, saying the shop owner was at a funeral. “The accused took the complainant close to Kuwadzana Extension satellite clinic saying he was waiting for the lady to come. “At round 5.30pm, the accused took the complainant to Whitehouse Shopping Centre and boarded a kombi to Riddle Ridge. “They disembarked at a curve and took a foot path through the bush.
“As they were walking, the accused said he wanted to urinate. “The accused then produced an okapi knife, threatened to harm the woman, and then raped her,” said Insp Chakanza.
