9 Ways To Know If You’re In A Relationship With An Overprotective Partner

This experience is gotten from a true life story.

I was once in a relationship with a lady who constantly doubted my love for her. This lady never stopped trying to gain control over me. She wouldn’t consider my needs or wants; instead, she would only talk about her own at all times. I was unhappy and suffocated in the relationship because of her selfishness. After I broke up with her, I learned that she was ‘Overprotective’ and not in love with me.

I believe it’s natural and acceptable for someone to be protective of the person/thing they love, but it’s very wrong for one to be overprotective. An overprotective partner is possessive, jealous, and insecure. In short, an overprotective partner is a toxic partner. Overprotectiveness toward a person is not a sign of love.

As someone who has been in an overprotective relationship, I’d like to share these ways for you to easily know an overprotective partner. Below are the 9 ways to know if you’re in a relationship with an overprotective partner.

1. Overprotective Partner Checks Your Phone At All Times: Jealous lovers don’t know that it’s inappropriate to check your partner’s phone frequently, because it indicates a partner’s lack of confidence and insecurities and also has a negative outcome.

2. Overprotective Partner Expresses Profound Love Early: During our second meeting, she confessed to being deeply in love with me, saying that I had improved her quality of life and that she would want to spend the rest of her life with me. As a possessive partner, she tried to influence my feelings from the onset.

3. Overprotective Partner Isolates You from Friends Of The Opposite Sex: A possessive partner would want to separate you from other friends. She never let me talk to other women. She often made me feel bad for leaving her alone and going out with my other friends.

4. Overprotective Partner Controls What You Wear: An overprotective partner doesn’t want people to stare at you, therefore they choose what you wear. Your partner has no right to control what you wear. You should wear whatever is most comfortable for you because, as they say; clothing is a personal choice.

5. Overprotective Partner Follows You Everywhere: It’s ridiculous how overprotective partners continuously want to follow you wherever you go to make sure you’re protected since they believe you’re not safe when they’re not with you.

6. Overprotective Partners Always Ask Irrelevant Questions such as; “Where were you? Who were you talking with? What were you talking about?”

7. Overprotective Partners Always Blame Others For How They Feel.

8. Overprotective Partner Starts Arguments Over Nothing.

9. Overprotective Partner Would Go Through Your Social Media Posts, Comments, And Reactions.

Overprotectiveness is unhealthy, and if your partner is overprotective, it means that you’re in an unhealthy relationship. Avoid unhealthy relationships today because they can lead you to mental breakdown and depression.
